GOOGLE ADS NOW SHOWS YOU THE AD TEXT ITS AI WOULD WRITE, BEFORE YOU TURN IT ON.
Google Ads has added text customization asset previews. Advertisers can now see sample headlines and descriptions written by Google AI for an AI Max for Search campaign, before opting in to text customization or launching the campaign. Your text guidelines, such as words to exclude, are applied to the samples. For a local business, this is a simple way to check what the automation would say in your name.
AT A GLANCE
By Conqueror Capital · Published
The short answer: before you turn on text customization, open the preview, read every sample headline and description, and add exclusions for anything you do not offer or would not promise.
WHAT GOOGLE ADDED
Google's help page on text customization now has a section called Text customization asset previews. It says you can use previews to view sample text assets generated by Google AI and see whether they match your brand and text guidelines before you opt in or launch a new campaign.1 Search Engine Roundtable reported the change on October 9, 2026.2
As reported, when you give a final landing page URL, Google generates a sample of up to 10 example headlines and descriptions, and you do not need to opt in to see them. If you set text guidelines, the preview filters the samples to meet them. If your rules block every sample, you are asked to adjust them.2
WHAT TEXT CUSTOMIZATION IS
Text customization is a campaign-level setting in AI Max for Search campaigns, and was formerly known as automatically created assets. It uses your landing page, your ads and your keywords to write extra headlines and descriptions.1 AI Max is an optional set of features layered on a Search campaign.3 Our post on AI Max reporting columns covers how to see where it sends your budget.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THE SAMPLES
- Promises you do not make. Same-day service, free estimates, warranties or guarantees you do not offer.
- Prices. Any price or discount that is not current, or that you never quote in ads.
- Services you stopped. Old pages on your site can feed the AI. If a sample mentions one, update the page as well as the ad settings.
- Areas you do not serve. Towns or regions outside your real service area.
- Claims that need proof. Words like best, number one or licensed should only appear if they are true and you can show it.
SET YOUR TEXT GUIDELINES
Google's help page describes text guidelines that let you exclude specific terms and avoid specific concepts in generated ads.1 Turn what you found in the samples into rules: exclude the words and offers that are wrong for you, then preview again.
If every sample is blocked, your rules may be too broad. Remove the widest rule first and add narrower ones. After launch, keep reading the generated assets in your reporting. A preview is a sample, not a guarantee of every line the AI will write.

WHAT CHANGES FOR MULTI-LOCATION AND ENTERPRISE ADVERTISERS
With many locations or product lines, the AI may draw on many landing pages, each with its own offers and wording. A few habits help:
- Preview per landing page. Run the preview for the main page of each campaign, not just the home page.
- Shared exclusion list. Keep one list of banned words and claims, approved by marketing and legal, and apply it to every account.
- Regulated wording. In finance, health, legal or home services with licensing rules, have the right person approve the samples before you opt in.
- Monthly review. Check generated assets after launch, by campaign, and remove any that slipped through.
