Google Posts Now Show Views: How to Use Them

Google Business Profile posts now show a view count for each update, offer and event inside the Business Profile dashboard, and Conqueror Capital's advice is to read those numbers once a month and repeat what works. Here is what the count covers, what it does not, and how to use it.

AT A GLANCE

By Conqueror Capital · Published

The short answer: Open your Business Profile, go to Posts, and you will see how many people viewed each post on Google Search and Maps combined, going back about 18 months. The number is not in the Business Profile API yet, so scheduling tools will not show it. Compare posts with each other, not with other businesses, and repeat the topics and photos that earn the most views.

WHAT CHANGED

september 2026

PPC Land reported on September 10, 2026 that Google added view counts for posts inside the Business Profile dashboard, citing Google's September Small Business bulletin.1 According to that report, the count combines views from people who saw the post on Google Search and on Google Maps into one figure per post, covers a rolling 18 months, and is rolling out globally but is not yet available in the API.1

Posts themselves are not new. Google's help page says posts can show text, photos or videos and appear in the Updates or Overview tabs of a Business Profile on mobile, and in the "From the owner" section on a computer, on both Search and Maps.2 What is new is a simple way to see which of those posts people actually looked at.

HOW TO READ THE NUMBER

compare like with like

A view count is a reach number. It tells you a post was shown and seen, not that it brought a call or a visit. Treat it as the first step in a chain: views, then clicks or calls, then customers.

  • Compare your posts with each other. A post with far more views than your usual is telling you something about its topic, photo or first line.
  • Compare month to month. Look at the same kind of post across months, for example offers against offers, events against events.
  • Check the status first. Google says a post shows on Search and Maps only when its status is Live; a Pending or rejected post will not collect views.2
  • Do not compare with competitors. You cannot see their numbers, and their audience and area are different.

A FIVE-MINUTE MONTHLY ROUTINE

same day each month
  1. Open the Posts section and note the view count of each post from the last month.
  2. Mark the post with the most views and the one with the fewest.
  3. Ask what differs: the photo, the first sentence, the topic, the day it went out.
  4. Plan next month's posts around the stronger pattern, and change one thing about the weaker one.
  5. Check your Business Profile performance report for calls and website clicks in the same month, so reach and results sit side by side.

If every post shows very low numbers, the usual causes are posts that are hard to scan, photos that look like stock, or a profile that rarely appears for the searches that matter. That last one is a ranking question, not a posting question; see how to optimize a Google Business Profile.

WHY YOUR SCHEDULING TOOL STILL SHOWS NOTHING

dashboard only

Many businesses post through a scheduling tool or an agency platform. Because the report says the count is not in the API yet, those tools cannot pull it.1 Until that changes, someone with access to the profile needs to open the dashboard itself. Put it on a calendar so it does not depend on memory.

SMALL, MID-SIZE AND MULTI-LOCATION

who reads it

Small businesses: one owner or manager, one profile, five minutes a month. Note the top post in a simple spreadsheet and you will have a record of what your customers respond to within a few months.

Mid-size businesses: agree on who posts and who reviews. If an agency posts for you, ask for the view counts in the monthly report, taken from the dashboard, until the API carries them.

Multi-location and enterprise brands: Google lets you share one post across several profiles.{S(2)} Compare how the same post performs at each location; a location that lags on every post may have a profile problem worth fixing first. Our guide to Business Profiles for multiple locations covers the setup side.

FAQ

short answers

Can I see how many people viewed my Google Business Profile posts?

Yes. The Business Profile dashboard now shows a view count for each post, combining views on Google Search and Google Maps, according to PPC Land's report of Google's September 2026 bulletin.

How far back do Google post view counts go?

The report says the counts cover a rolling 18 months of posts.

Why does my social media scheduling tool not show Google post views?

The view count is not yet available in the Business Profile API, so third-party tools cannot pull it. Check the dashboard directly.

What is a good number of views for a Google post?

There is no fixed benchmark. Compare your own posts with each other and month to month, and repeat the topics and photos that earn the most views.
