Google Ads Can Now Add Your Website Promotions
Google Ads can now find a deal on your website, such as a coupon or a sale, and show it in your ads without anyone in your account setting it up, and Conqueror Capital recommends checking every offer on your site before that happens. Google calls the feature automated promotions. It applies to Search and Performance Max campaigns with location assets, and Google told advertisers it would switch it on by default from October 12, 2026.
AT A GLANCE
By Conqueror Capital · Published
The short answer: If your Search or Performance Max campaigns use location assets and have no promotion assets of their own, Google can take a promotion from your website and attach it to your ads. Check every offer page on your site: remove expired deals, make sure the wording is exact, and decide whether you want the setting on. You can turn it off under Assets, Account level automated assets, Advanced settings.
WHAT GOOGLE CHANGED
Google's help page says automated promotions highlight deals and offers directly within your ads, and that Google Ads identifies and sources these promotions from your website landing pages, with "Buy one get one free" as its example. They are attached automatically to eligible Search and Performance Max campaigns.1
Search Engine Roundtable published the email Google sent to some advertisers. It says that starting October 12, 2026, Google Ads will "automatically identify and extract high-quality promotions, such as coupons and deals, from your website and apply them directly to your campaigns," and that advertisers are opted in automatically.2 The same report notes that the feature itself launched earlier; the email was Google telling advertisers about it.2
WHICH CAMPAIGNS IT TOUCHES
Google lists three requirements: an active Search or Performance Max campaign with location assets attached (including Local Ad campaigns), no manual promotion already running on that campaign, and compliance with the normal Google Ads policies.1 So it matters most to businesses with a physical location linked to their ads: shops, restaurants, clinics, service businesses with a storefront, and chains.
If a campaign already carries a promotion you added yourself, Google says the automated system skips it.1 Google also says each automated promotion serves for less than 24 hours at a time and can be re-enabled only while its systems can still see the offer on your website.1 An offer that stays on your site after it ends can therefore keep appearing in ads.
WHAT TO CHECK ON YOUR WEBSITE
- Expired offers. Search your own site for words like "sale", "% off", "coupon", "deal" and "free". Remove or update anything that has ended, including banners and pop-ups.
- Exact wording. An ad shows the offer out of context. "20% off" on a page that only means one product line can read as storewide in an ad.
- Conditions. Put dates, limits and exclusions right next to the offer, in plain text, so the page itself is clear.
- Old landing pages. Seasonal pages that are still live but no longer linked from your menu can still be found.
- Regulated wording. If your industry has rules on how offers are advertised, have whoever approves your ads approve your website offers too.
HOW TO TURN IT OFF, OR KEEP CONTROL
Google's help page gives the steps to opt out: go to Assets in the Campaigns menu, open the three-dot More menu in the filter bar and select Account level automated assets, open the three-dot menu on that page, choose Advanced settings, then set Automated promotions to Off.1 To see what has been added, go to Assets and filter by the Promotion asset type.1
Turning it off is not the only option. Google says you can upload promotions manually if you need exact control over what is shown, such as start and end dates.1 A manual promotion asset lets you write the offer yourself.3 For many local businesses, a manual promotion plus an accurate offer page is the safest mix.
FOR MULTI-LOCATION AND ENTERPRISE ADVERTISERS
For a chain or franchise, the risk is scale. One regional offer page, or one location's old promotion, can appear in ads tied to many locations. Decide who owns offer pages on the website, keep a dated list of live promotions with their end dates, and check the Promotion assets in each account every week while a campaign runs. Where pricing or offers differ by location, make each location page say so plainly. Larger teams should add website offers to the same approval step used for ad copy, so marketing, legal and the locations agree before anything goes live. Our Performance Max guide for local businesses covers the wider setup.
