GOOGLE SHUT DOWN THE BUSINESS PROFILE Q&A API.

If a reputation or listings tool used to answer questions on your Google Business Profile for you, that stopped working in November 2025. Here is what Google's developer documentation says changed, and what to do about it.

AT A GLANCE

By Conqueror Capital · Published

The change: Google announced September 15, 2025; discontinued November 3, 2025.1

WHAT CHANGED

Nov 3, 2025

In a change log entry dated September 15, 2025, Google said it would discontinue the My Business Q&A API on November 3, 2025, "as we are in the process of updating the Q&A functionality and user experience."1

A follow-up entry dated November 3, 2025 confirms the deprecation is complete: you can no longer read or post questions and answers using the API. Google also deprecated the related notification types for new and updated questions and answers.1 Google's sunset dates page lists the same November 3, 2025 date.2

WHAT AN API IS, BRIEFLY

why this matters

An API is how outside software talks to Google. Listings and reputation platforms used the Q&A API to pull questions people asked on your profile into one dashboard, alert you, and post answers without you opening Google.

With the API gone, Google's documentation says that software can no longer read or post questions and answers.1 Whatever your tool shows for Q&A now, it is not coming from that API.

WHO IT AFFECTS

check if this is you
  • Businesses using a listings or reputation tool that promised to manage Google questions for you.
  • Multi-location businesses that answered questions in bulk through software. See Business Profile for multiple locations.
  • Agencies that reported on Q&A activity for clients.

If you only ever managed your profile directly in Google, the API change itself did not remove anything you were using. Google's notice ties it to updating the Q&A experience, so check your own profile to see what currently appears.1

WHAT WE WON'T CLAIM

separating fact from rumor

Plenty of articles describe what Google is replacing Q&A with. The developer change log we cite covers the API only; it does not describe the new experience.1 We are not going to guess at it here. When Google documents it, we will write about it.

THE TIMELINE

from Google's change log
  • November 18, 2021. The Q&A API moved to its own endpoint and had to be enabled separately in the Google Cloud console.1
  • February 12 and September 16, 2024. Google changed the ID format for questions and answers, then stopped accepting the old IDs.1
  • September 15, 2025. Google announced the API would be discontinued and told developers to update their workflows before November 3, 2025. Until then, existing data stayed accessible.1
  • November 3, 2025. Discontinuation complete; reading and posting through the API ended.1

QUICK QUESTIONS

short answers

Did Google delete my Business Profile?

No. The change log is about one API used by software. Nothing in it says profiles themselves were removed.1

Can my listings tool bring it back?

Not through that API. Google says you can no longer read or post questions and answers using it.1

Has Google retired other Business Profile APIs?

Yes. Google's deprecation schedule also lists the My Business Business Calls API, deprecated May 30, 2023, and tells developers to move to the newer Business Profile Performance API for profile insights. Tools built on older APIs have had to change before.2

Should I stop caring about customer questions?

No. People still have the same questions before they call or visit. The answers just need to live somewhere you control, like your website and your profile details.

WHAT TO DO

practical steps
  1. Ask your tool vendor what their Q&A feature does now, and stop paying for anything that relied on the discontinued API.
  2. Put your common answers on your website. Hours, service areas, pricing approach, parking, booking. A clear FAQ on your own site is yours to control. Our website checklist covers what to include.
  3. Keep the profile itself accurate. Categories, services, hours and description answer many questions before anyone asks. See optimize your Business Profile.
  4. Reply to reviews. Customers often ask questions in reviews, and a clear reply helps the next person reading. See how to get more Google reviews.
